Project Overview

Project Name: Soklo Health Center
Start Date: 15-Feb-2023
Estimated Completion Date: 12-Nov-2023
Status: Completed
Sector: Public Health And Medical Services
Location: Mfangano Island

Introduction

The County Government of Homa Bay has commissioned Soklo Health Center to serve the over 10,000 residents of the remote Mfangano Plateau. The area has long suffered from lack of accessible quality healthcare, with the nearest facilities located 10-15km away in Sena, Uguna or Wakula. This distance has led to preventable maternal deaths and inability to handle medical emergencies.

Economic Benefit

The new center fills a critical need by providing essential medical services directly to the Mfangano Plateau community. Improved local access to immunizations, screenings, maternity care and other treatments will lead to a healthier population focused on economic productivity rather than disease. It will also reduce transportation costs to distant facilities.

Citizen Benefit

For citizens, the Soklo Health Center brings immense individual benefits. Greatly enhanced accessibility enables residents to get the healthcare they need, when they need it. This is especially impactful for expectant mothers and children. By investing in inclusive development across all of Homa Bay, the county government is delivering on its commitment to leave no part of the county behind and uphold the right to health for all. This project will save lives and uplift the people of Mfangano.
