Introduction

The County Government of Homa Bay has implemented the Nduga Rain Water Harvesting project in West Karachuonyo Ward of North Karachuonyo Sub-County. This initiative aims to provide a sustainable water supply solution for households in the area through rainwater harvesting infrastructure.

Economic Benefit

Rainwater harvesting is a key intervention in regions facing water scarcity and unreliable rainfall patterns. The Nduga project will capture and store rainwater, ensuring communities can access clean water for domestic use even during dry spells. This renewable source reduces reliance on distant water points and boreholes. Access to water unlocks numerous socioeconomic benefits by reducing the time and health burdens of water scarcity.

Citizen Benefit

For the residents of West Karachuonyo Ward, the project represents improved water security and resilience to climate change impacts. Harvested rainwater at homesteads provides the convenience of readily available safe water for drinking, cooking, sanitation and supplemental irrigation.
