Over 3,000 boys in Homa Bay County participated in the inaugural Governor's Mentorship Camp, a program modeled after the successful decade-old girls' edition.

Themed "Guiding the Way, Shaping the Future," the camp aimed to empower young men with life skills, positive masculinity, career guidance, and tools to combat social challenges like HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence.

Speaking during the event, governor Gladys Wanga challenged the boys to embrace their potential and contribute positively to society.

"This century is destined to be the African century," she declared, urging them to uphold values like honesty, integrity, and continuous learning.

"Seize opportunities, face life's challenges with courage, and remember, the world is yours to shape," she added.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino, the camp's chief guest, shared his own story of overcoming adversity, inspiring the boys to persevere through life's ups and downs.

"Life is not a bed of roses," he cautioned, "but with hard work and ingenuity, you can achieve your dreams."

The camp covered diverse topics, including positive masculinity, career guidance, and navigating social challenges.

Mentorship sessions provided boys with a platform for open dialogue and a sense of belonging.

The program was supported by various organizations, including the County Pensions Fund, PS Kenya, Child Fund, and the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council.

The deputy governor, Hon. Joseph Oyugi Magwanga, Kabondo-Kasipul MP, Hon. Eve Obara, county executive members and members of the county assembly were among several guests that graced the mentorship camp.

By equipping the boys with essential skills and knowledge, the camp hopes to foster a generation of responsible and capable individuals who can contribute to a brighter future for themselves and their county.
