Early Life

Married with four children, H.E. HON. Cyprian Otieno Awiti was born on 14th December 1952 in Rachuonyo Sub County, Homa Bay County, in the western part of Kenya. His foundational Education started at Mawego Primary School in Rachuonyo. He then joined Mawego Technical Institute for his secondary school education thereafter he enrolled at Mombasa Technical Training Institute where he successfully completed his course in Electrical Engineering. In his pursuit for more Knowledge, His Excellency, took a three-year Masters at Manchester University where he graduated with a Master of Education in Management Administration in 1987.

Career Profile

After graduating from Mombasa Technical Training Institute His Excellency Cyprian joined Kenya’s Ministry of Public Works as Government Electrical Inspector where he served diligently for four years before joining Mombasa Polytechnic as a senior Lecturer for nine years of service. Between 1980 and 1983, His Excellency landed an opportunity to work with Siemens Kenya as Factory and Marketing Manager before he came back to the Public Service in 1983 as a Senior Education Officer, in the Ministry of Education, Jogoo house. In 1988 His Excellency became the Principal, Railway Training School where he nurtured successful engineers for six years. His Excellency has always been ambitious in his career and had a big appetite for bigger responsibilities. This led him to join Marie Stopes Kenya as the Country Director where he spearheaded development and Implementation of various health policies from 1993 until when he retired in 2010. Currently as from April 2013, His Excellency Cyprian Awiti is serving the public as the Governor of Homa Bay County Government.

Deputy Governor, Homa Bay County

Early Life

Hon. Hamilton Orata, born in 1953, comes from Kanyidoto in Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County and is a married man with children. He graduated in 1976 from The University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. He received sponsorship from Canadian International Development Agency where he successfully completed a course in Mutual Funds and Investment Companies in Toronto. Prior to that he undertook International Executive Management Program offered by Canadian Petroleum Institute in Alberta Canada among other professional courses.

Work Experience

Hon. Orata has immersed rich experience in management from both the private and public sector that will be an asset in steering Homa Bay County’s development initiative. After graduating from UON, he joined Barclays Bank of Kenya between 1976 and 1982 as a Management Trainee to senior Management. He left BBK to in 1983 for Kenya Finance Bank Group as a Branch Manager where he successfully spearheaded computerization project.

He then joined Merchant Card Ltd in 1994 where he served as the General Manager before joining Trust Bank as a Branch Manager in 1987 where he was later promoted to Senior Credit Manager in 1998. In his quest for career advancement, Mr Orata left Trust Bank in 1999 for Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority where he served diligently as Chief Officer-Finance and Administration for three years before he was promoted to the position of Assistant Director – Finance & Operations. Later in 2003, Mr. Orata joined Kenya Pipeline Company as the Finance Manager before he left for private practice. In his most recent engagement, he has been a Consultant in Accounting, Auditing and Financial Management from which he has served various companies and organizations.

Achievements

While at Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority, he was part of the Task Force that prepared Public Service Integrity Programme that is currently being used by Kenyan Government in training officers in the Public Service on integrity and Corruption Prevention. He spearheaded Computerization Project while at Kenya Finance Group during the bank’s upgrading/restructuring initiative between 1983 and 1994.
