H.E Governor Wanga on Friday became the first patient in the newly refurbished dental unit at the county referral hospital.
The Sh2.3million worth ultra-modern dental facility including a dental chair among other equipment will bring quality, affordable dental services closer to residents who have been for years forced to seek services from private facilities.
“We open doors to the public today for free dental check ups as we look to register our people into the National Hospital Insurance Fund,” Wanga said, adding that her administration is working step by step towards improving healthcare as they had pledged.
She was speaking to the press after an inspection tour of the facility accompanied by health department officials, led by Chief Officer Dr. Kevin Osuri and Homa Bay referral Chief Executive, Dr. Peter Ogolla.
According to Governor Wanga, the county government is working under the 100 days Rapid Results Initiative plan to upgrade infrastructure and enhance service delivery at the referral hospital to better outpatient services including accidents and emergencies.
“We are setting up a comprehensive outpatient block that will be a one-stop shop including all outpatient services,” she added.
The governor urged the locals to go for regular dental checkups as oral health is important.
Health Services Chief Officer, Dr. Kevin Osuri said the department has equally established a structure where a CT scan machine will soon be installed.
Governor Wanga later visited the county Gender-Based recovery center where she pledged to expand the center to enable it deal with most gender-based violence within the county.
“A lot of renovations will be effected under the 100days Rapid Results Initiative, including the upgrading of the maternity wing at our county referral, to ensure our mothers deliver safely.”
