Road Works Set to begin as Sh200 million worth Contracts awarded

Governor Gladys Wanga has today awarded Sh 200 million worth contracts to road contractors who successfully bid on various ward-based road projects in the 40 wards across the county.

The County boss praised the contractors, stating that they have demonstrated their capability successfully being awarded contracts to manage road projects.

Wanga made these comments during a meeting to award contractors at the department of roads and infrastructure.

“I want to request for quality work on the roads. We have set up a Projects Management Committees system that you will work closely with at the wards and they will approve the following successful completion of the project,” Wanga said, adding that the contractors will be paid on a first-come-first-serve basis.”

The Governor who was later joined by her deputy, hon. Joseph Magwanga on a working tour to kick-start the various roads construction and routine maintenance projects in Kabuoch and Kwabwai Wards in Ndhiwa sub county.

“We are fully committed to paying contractors who successfully complete their projects satisfactorily such that we don’t accrue pending bills,” she added.

Residents have confirmed that the road improvement projects have greatly improved accessibility, allowing farmers to easily transport their crops to markets throughout the year.

The county has set aside a significant amount through the supplementary budget to construct at least one major road per ward. Each of the 40 wards will be getting Sh 5 million for the roads project.

Governor Wanga stated that her administration will try their best to address the issue of pending bills, revealing that they are working on raising their own source revenue to boost the county’s resources and pay contractors in time.

Deputy Governor, Hon. Magwanga warned contractors against executing shoddy work. He appealed to project management committees to represent the county leadership in supervising each project for quality assurance.

“We want to make accessibility possible everywhere and add more road networks to enhance rural-urban connectivity and support agricultural activities,” said Magwanga.

The project management committees will inspect the construction of roads in these 40 wards to completion. The ongoing works include the installation of culverts in south Kabuoch, Kwabwai and North Kabuoch wards being implemented by contractors, according to Roads Executive member, Danish Onyango.

Residents from Ndhiwa Sub County in the wards toured by the governor thanked her administration for the swift launch of construction in the rural areas.

The contractors will also work on new road projects, including drainage, grading, and graveling, to ease connectivity in agricultural areas.
