Governor Gladys Wanga has urged the public to fully involve themselves in the implementation of the new public participation model that kicked off yesterday.
Governor Wanga said Homa Bay adopted the Makueni county’s people-driven model that allows local people in Homa Bay county to not only, decide which see development project to embark on, but engage in their management once they are commissioned.
She was speaking at ward level public engagement fora in south kasipul, east and west kamagak wards where she acknowledged the importance of publication participation.
“It is only by engaging the public at this critical stage, that we can easily help grow confidence in the management of devolved resources,” Wanga said.
She added: “We want the citizens to be at the very center and be decision-makers in the implementation of this third edition of CIDP.“
The county boss commended the new model noting that project management committees at ward level will have the power to take charge of devolution at ward level.
She further added that this model will at no time allow projects to be cleared at department or top levels.
“We will devolve powers to Project management committees that will oversee clearance of completed projects.”
Deputy Governor, Oyugi Magwanga who also accompanied his boss said the county leadership is committed to implement people-driven projects.
Magwanga stated:” The public must now come up with tangible projects to eliminate wastage to enable the Governor successfully deliver on her mandate.”
He noted that there was need to support government to ensure the projects are sustainable.
More than 80 people at each of the 40 ward- level public participation fora have been participating in the publicly advertised sessions, which started Monday.
