NATIONAL GOVERNMENT MINISTRY OF HEALTH OFFICIALS VISIT HOMA BAY COUNTY TO ASSES COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS
A team of top Government officials from the Ministy of Health today visited Homa Bay in a bid to a certain the level of the County’s preparedness in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
The team including the Chiaf Administrative Secretary, Ministry of Health Dr. Rashid Aman, the Director of Medical Services Dr. Patrick Amoth and Director of Nursing Services Dr. Mary Nandili inspected Malela and Nyagoro Isolation Centers in Ndhiwa and Rangwe Sub Counties and concluded with a visit of the County Teaching and Referral Hospital.
During the visit, Dr. Aman took the opportunity to give the daily Covid-19 update at the newly constructed 10 bed ICU facility which he later opened together with a blood Bank.
Dr. Aman said he is impressed by the level of preparedness put in place by the County Government to combat the spread of corona virus.
He added that Homa Bay County has 62 confirmed cases so far and ranks number 33 in order of decreasing cases among Counties in Kenya.
Governor Cyprian Awiti asked the Ministry of Health to consider upgrading Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital to a level 5 so as to attract conditional grant from the National Government since his administration has given the facility a major face-lift.
Dr. Amoth affirmed that the facility meets the criteria of a level 5 Hospital and will soon be gazetted. He also said that the iso certified Laboratory at the County Referral Hospital qualifies to be a Covid-19 testing Center.
He appealed to the County Government to continue supporting Sub County Health management teams to highten surveillance and do 100% contact tracing in order to reduce the spread of corona virus.
