Minister leads clean up drive in Oyugis

County executive member for Environment, Dr. Joash Aloo today led a team of environmentalists from both levels of government in a town clean-up exercise, at Oyugis town in Rachuonyo sub county.

The CEC member was joined by members of local community in Oyugis, organizations and civic groups, as well as individuals who wanted to pitch in and help make the town a cleaner and more habitable place.
The clean-up effort focused on several areas of the town that were in need of attention, including the Oyugis bus park, streets and sidewalks, and local waterways.
“I’m so pleased to see many people coming together to make our town a better place for everyone, just like Governor Gladys Wanga envisions,” Dr. Aloo was speaking to the people of Oyugis town having concluded the clean up exercise.
“It’s important that we all do our part to keep our town clean and healthy, and I’m grateful to everyone who has joined us today to make that happen.” he added.
Dr. Aloo and the team worked tirelessly at key sections of the town that were heavily polluted by picking up litter, pulling weeds, and doing other tasks to improve the appearance of the town.
The clean-up exercise was a huge success, with volunteers filling dozens of trash bags with litter and making a noticeable difference in the areas they worked on.
The county minister and his team also worked with local officials to identify areas of the town that may need ongoing attention and support in order to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
“We are focused on zero litter, zero garbage and zero waste effluence,” said Dr. Aloo.
Director for National Environmental Management, Mr. Josiah Nyadoro urged the public to take responsibility of their environment.
“The entire process of waste management begins right from disposal at your homes, so let’s learn to segregate waste at that level to ensure a clean, safe environment for all of us,” Nyadoro said.
Overall, the town clean-up exercise was a great example of stakeholders and community members coming together to make a positive impact on their town.
Governor Gladys Wanga had initiated a monthly town clean-up program that started in the county headquarters back in October and includes other towns in the sub county.
East Kamagak ward member of county assembly, Hon. Dorine nyasiaya, who represented the legislative arm of government said she will continue to work closely with the CEC to ensure the environment is protected.
All volunteers were praised for their efforts and commitment to improving the town, and many said they were looking forward to participating in future clean-up efforts.
