HOMABAY COUNTY HOLDS A CLIMATE CHANGE REVIEW MEETINGCollins Ogutu
The County Government of Homabay yesterday hosted stakeholders to a consultative review meeting for the Climate Change Fund Regulations at Staridge Hotel in Homabay Town.
Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) Nairobi is working with the Directorate of Climate Change to support the development of Homabay County Climate Change Action Plan and Finance Regulations.
Speaking during the event, the Director Climate Change Mr. Roy Odongo revealed that Homabay County was experiencing myriad environmental challenges, which require interventions in mitigation and adoption.
“Climate change has no boundaries as it affects all sectors hence the need for a long term and overreaching legislative framework.” He said.
“There must be required direction, coordination, participation in the identification Climate Change Priorities and their alignment with the Governor’s manifesto and incorporation into the CIDP,” added Mr. Odongo.
The Climate change regulations will be instrumental in the actualization of the Homabay Climate Change Act once it comes into effect.
The County leadership is committed to addressing Climate Change issues through supporting locally led Climate Change Actions by community establishments.
CUTS is also supporting the establishment of Ward Level Climate Change Planning Committees in selected wards of Homabay County.
