Homa Bay and NGO Collaborate to Address Housing and Education Needs
Homa Bay County, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Kenya, has embarked on a transformative initiative to tackle housing and education challenges within the region.
As part of this joint effort, 25 homes have been constructed for widows in Kagan Ward, Rangwe sub-county. The collaboration also includes the provision of essential infrastructure to Manga Primary School, such as two Early Childhood Development (ECD) classrooms, three ablution blocks with 16 doors, five 10,000-litre water tanks, and four Interlocking Stabilized Soil Block (ISSB) machines for local self-help groups.
Deputy Governor Hon. Joseph Oyugi Magwanga, while addressing the gathering at the handover ceremony held at Manga Primary School, emphasized the significance of the partnership in promoting accessibility to decent and affordable housing, as well as addressing educational needs.
He stated, “This collaboration between the County Government of Homa Bay and Habitat for Humanity Kenya is a testament to our commitment to provide sustainable solutions to housing and education challenges within our community.”
Anthony Okoth, Country Director of Habitat for Humanity Kenya, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the broader goals of the initiative.
“Our joint efforts aim to build decency, dignity, and hope in the local communities. By constructing homes for widows and providing essential infrastructure to Manga Primary School, we are fostering positive change and creating a brighter future for the residents of Homa Bay County,” he said.
Martin Opere, Executive Member for Education in Homa Bay County, emphasized the benefit of the project, expressing his optimism about its impact beyond Kagan Ward.
“This initiative serves as a case study for our commitment to address education challenges across our 40 wards, together we will make a difference,” Opere said.
The collaboration between Homa Bay and Habitat for Humanity Kenya marks a significant step forward in addressing the housing and education needs of the local community. Through joint efforts and shared resources, the partners are actively working towards enhancing the quality of life for residents, fostering a sense of dignity, and promoting sustainable development.
As the project progresses, it is expected to serve as an inspiring model for future endeavors aimed at addressing housing and education challenges in Homa Bay County and beyond.
