Governor H.E Hon Gladys Wanga Tuesday chaired a consultative meeting with the Revenue Taskforce at the governor’s boardroom in Homa Bay.
The team has already initiated operations to ascertain why the county’s revenue mobilisation registered dismal performance over the years.

The County’s revenue records showed that, total revenue collected is standing at negative (-)34 percent compared to what was collected during the previous local government regimes.

The governor revealed that in July this year our county only collected about Sh 10 million and Sh 3 million in August as total revenue. She said, the county will set new targets after the Taskforce report is handed over in the coming weeks.

Governor Wanga urged locals to support the initiative meant to immobilise tax collection cartels that thrived on corruption, fraud and theft of public resources.

Already all revenue officers have been asked to proceed on a one month normal annual leave to allow the Taskforce to carry out its work within the specified period.

The governor has declared a 15 day tax holiday to give room for the reorganization of tax mobilisation regimes and systems.

The governor said that the County will benchmark with Laikipia County whose revenue collection model has been a great success.

The Tuesday meeting was also attended by former Laikipia Governor Nderitu Murithi who steered Laikipia County to admirable tax mobilisation levels.

Governor Wanga, also officially commissioned the Taskforce and urged them to move with speed to enable the County to operationalize their report for the betterment of revenue collection.

Deputy Governor H.E.Hon Oyugi Magwanga was also present.
