GOVERNOR EXTENDS TAX HOLIDAY AMID REVENUE MAPPING
Governor Gladys Wanga on Monday announced preliminary findings by the revenue administration taskforce that had been working the last fifteen days.
The Governor said streamlining revenue mapping, management and collection was among tasks she promised to execute in 100 days.
“The report handed over to me shows revenue leakage occasioned by Lack of a mechanism to collect revenue, low integrity among a section of staff and manipulation of the electronic system as some of the many challenges that had brought about poor debt collection,” Governor Wanga said.
The Governor who was speaking to the press, said her administration will put in place immediate remedial measures to reverse this trend, once the final report is released.
“We will restructure the revenue collection establishment to implement a cashless plan aimed at eradicating pilferage and theft of revenue collected,” She said.
Adding that this will be among a raft of measures to ensure the government achieves the potential annual revenue target of a billion Kenya shillings.
Governor Wanga extended the tax holiday by another 7 days to allow time for the taskforce to complete its report. She further revealed plans to reorganize the revenue mobilization structure and a back to work plan for revenue officers on leave.
She was accompanied deputy governor H.E Oyugi Magwanga and Prof. Donald Ogweno.
