GOVERNOR AWITI ASSENTS TO LAKE REGION ECONOMIC BLOC BILL
HOMA BAY yesterday became the eighth County out of the 14 member Counties to pass the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) bill into Law.
Governor Cyprian Awiti while assenting to the bill said the passing of the bill authorizes the County to legally participate in all the activities of the bloc.
“As a County we want to make the bloc an attractive destination for local and foreign investors, “he said.
Awiti said the process of ratifying the bill was crucial to the region since most member counties had already engaged in the process of legally instituting the regional bloc.
“This is also a tribute to the departed Vice chairperson Her Excellency Dr.Joyce Laboso who was so passionate about the bloc and always urged us to expedite the formation of the regional bloc,” he added.
The Governor expressed confidence that the Bloc was on the right path and would soon realize its dream to form a regional bank.
He lauded the Members of the County Assembly led by the Speaker, Hon. Evans Marieba for passing the bill with very minimal amendments.
Hon. Marieba said the delay to pass the bill was because the assembly was carrying out public participation and to ensure that there was no legal gap.
Majority Leader Hon. Walter Muok said by assenting to the bill, the Governor demonstrated his trust in the Assembly.
“As a bloc, we have a lot of resources that we share. By coming together with fellow bloc member counties, we will be able to boost trade.”
Present at the ceremony were newly crowned Miss President Nerea Amondi, Chief Whip Dan Ochieng and Chief of Staff in the office of Governor Mr Eliud Ochieng.
