GOVERNMENT BANS NIGHT TRANSPORTATION OF BUILDING MATERIALS
The County Government of Homa Bay has enacted new laws banning harvesting and transportation of sand and other building materials beyond 6pm. The County Executive Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Nicholas Koriko said those found transporting the materials beyond the lawful time would be arrested and fined not less than Ksh 10,000. Many of the transporters coming from as far as Kisii, Migori, Kisumu and parts of the Rift Valley have been transporting the materials at night to evade paying taxes.
Speaking to journalists in his office, Mr Koriko today, Mr Koriko quoted the Homa Bay County Finance Act (part II) OF 2015, schedules 3 and 4 which restricts transportation of building materials to between 6 am and 6 pm.
He said those that besides paying the Ksh 10,000 fine, those breaching the order will also have their licenses cancelled.
Mr. Koriko told transporters to ensure they obtained official receipts for taxes paid and report council officers who fail to provide them with receipts.
