First edition of Genowa Governor’s Cup a huge success in Homa BayBushnell Odhiambo
The Genowa Governor’s Cup, a youth sports tournament held in Homa Bay, concluded over the weekend with a showcase of incredible talent and competitive spirit from the region’s youth.
The tournament, which featured competitions in volleyball, netball, women’s football and men’s football, drew participants from across the county’s 40 wards and was a resounding success.
Governor Wanga, who is a passionate sports enthusiast, was delighted to attend the event and show her support for the players.
“I am thrilled to be here today and to see such a high level of talent on display,” She was speaking during the cup finals at the Homa Bay school grounds. She added that the players represented the best talents in Homa Bay County and it is an honor to watch them compete.”
The tournament was graced by Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba, who was on hand to witness the action and show his support for the participants.
“I am so proud to see the youth of Homa Bay excelling in sports and reaching their full potential,” said Cabinet Secretary Namwamba.
“The Genowa Governor’s Cup is a wonderful showcase of the potential of our youth and I look forward to seeing more of their successes in the future.”
Participants impressed the crowd with their energy and determination, making for an exciting and thrilling tournament.
The tournament organizers praised the youth for their hard work and dedication, saying that they were truly inspiring.
“The Genowa Governor’s Cup was a true testament to the incredible talent and competitive spirit of Homa Bay’s youth,” Said Sarah Malit, the county executive member for sports.
The tournament concluded with the presentation of awards to the winners in each category. Ligisa emerged victorious in the volleyball competition, Kendu Starlets in netball, Gideons in women’s football, and Nyamrich in men’s football.
The winners were congratulated by the Cabinet Secretary and the Governor, who thanked all the participants, organizers, and sponsors for making the tournament a huge success.
The first edition cup tournament was a great showcase of the youth talent and energy in Homa Bay County and the organizers look forward to an even better tournament next year.
