About 60 farmers of the groundnuts value-chain have benefited from a food safety sensitization training on the dangers and management of the aflatoxin threat.

The programme funded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and MarkUp Kenya seeks to educate farmers on best practices in the fight against aflatoxin.

The main fungi that produce aflatoxins are Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus, which are abundant in the warm and humid regions of the world.

The sensitization is an all-inclusive agricultural transformation programme targeted at food safety and security through increased awareness creation about aflatoxins, their impact, and management techniques.

Ms. Asha Mohammed led discussions on the management of Aflatoxin with focus on prevention measures.

The team of farmers who mainly grow cereals and grains pledged to become ambassadors in the fight against Aflatoxin in their groups.
