EQUITY CEO OFFERS PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO HOMA BAY COUNTY.

The fight against Covid-19 pandemic in Homa Bay County today received a major boost after Equity Group Holdings Limited CEO Dr. James Mwangi donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to frontline medical staff.

During the brief ceremony at the County Teaching and Referral Hospital, Dr. Mwangi disclosed that Equity Bank has committed 1.1 Billion to the Covid-19 fund to help the frontline healthcare workers in the fight against corona virus.

Dr. Mwangi who is also the Chairman of the National Covid-19 Response Fund said that Equity has contracted seven Kenyan factories who have employed 3700 employees to manufacture the PPEs in the spirit of buy Kenya, build Kenya.

He added that Equity has contributed an additional Ksh 85 million to medical Associations for socio-psychological support program for the next one year to counsel the frontline medical staff who go through trauma as they deal with covid-19 patients.

Speaking during the event, Governor Cyprian Awiti thanked Dr. Mwangi for his efforts in the fight against covid-19 pandemic. He added that Equity has elevated the lives and livelihood of many residents of the County as 522 people have benefitted from the Wings to fly Foundation and are currently working in various sectors to build the Country’s economy.

He said his Administration has built a state of the art ICU facility at the Referral Hospital and equipped isolation centers with 300 beds as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He urged the County residents to continue observing the containment measures put in place by the Ministry of Health in order to reduce the spread of corona virus since there has been a surge in the recent past.

Mr. Alfred Obengo, the Chairman of National Nurses Association assured the frontline medical staff safety. He said quality control measures was adhered to during preparation of the PPEs hence of good quality.

Among those present at the function was Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata, CEC for health Prof. Richard Muga, Equity Bank Director Dr. Edward Odundo.
