EDUCATION CABINET SECRETARY VISITS HOMA BAY COUNTY

Cabinet Secretary for Education Professor George Magoha yesterday visited Homa Bay County to ascertain the level of preparedness by local Jua kali artisans to produce desks for pupils and students ahead of reopening of schools shut down due to CoVID-19 pandemic
Prof Magoha said the project that will see Homa Bay County benefit from Ksh 29m out of the amount set aside is a brainchild of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at the Homa bay Jua Kali sheds, the CS who was accompanied by Governor Cyprian Awiti,his Deputy Hamilton Orata and the Principal Scretary in the State Department for Vocational and Technical Training Dr Julius Juan among top county and National government officials appealled to local artisans to benefit from the program.
He emphasized that the move by the government to produce furniture is to ensure social distancing and reduce the spread of corona virus when schools resume.
Prof Magoha lauded Governor Awiti for the warm hospitality and pledge to assist the Jua kali artisans realise their dreams out of thd project.
The team later visited Mawego Technical Training College where they inspected social amenities to ensure safety of students when the institution resumes.
Dr. Juan disclosed that they have visited 50% of Technical Institutions in Kenya and akno0wledged that Mawego was among the best
The Governor thanked Professor Magoha for choosing to come to Homa Bay and asked him to consider elevating Mawego Technical Institute to a National Polytechnic arguing that the entire southern Nyanza does not have one.
