COUNTY HOSTS WORLD WILDLIFE DAY 2020.
Governor Cyprian Awiti today joined Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Hon. Najib Balala to mark this year’s World Wildlife Day at Ruma National Park.
Ruma National Park is the only home to the endangered Roan Antelope in Kenya. The Cabinet Secretary launched the Roan Antelope Recovery and Action Plan with an objective of restoring the 15 Roan Antelopes in the Park to a population of 50 by the year 2023.
The Governor said his Government will partner with Kenya Wildlife Service to develop and maintain roads in Ruma and adjacent areas.
He also appealed to the nearby residents to desist from burning bushes and poaching because it endangers the species in the park.
Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata, Chief Administrative Secretary, Tourism and Wildlife Joseph Boinet, Permanent Secreatary, Tourism and Wildlife Fred Sigor, County Comissioner David Kipkemei, County CECs, County Chief Officers, KWS officials were among the guests at the event.
